On July 13, 2024, an attempted assassination on Donald Trump during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, narrowly missed him, leading many to believe divine intervention played a role in his survival. The event deeply impacted Trump, prompting him to adopt a more unifying campaign message. The article explores how such near-death experiences in history, like those of Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego, and Daniel, led to powerful societal shifts and divine recognition. It suggests that Trump’s survival could serve as a catalyst for America’s spiritual awakening, urging the nation to acknowledge God’s presence and seek national healing through faith.

By Dave Robbins

On July 13, at approximately 6:02 p.m. former President Donald J. Trump took the stage at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. He acknowledged the crowd, stepped to the podium and began to speak.

He was just a few minutes into his speech when he asked his team to place a chart on the jumbotron referencing low immigration stats at the end of his tenure as president. As he was explaining the chart to the audience, President Trump glanced at the crowd and then back to the jumbotron.

It was in this precise moment, when his head was turned to the right and slightly upward to look at the screen, shots were fired clipping the top of President Trump’s right ear. He immediately touched his ear, saw blood and ducked to avoid more incoming bullets.

I am not a crime scene investigator. However, it doesn’t take that level of experience to ascertain should President Trump’s head have been turned just a fraction of an inch to the right or left, he would have suffered a fatal blow.

After the initial shock, I immediately thought, “You cannot tell me there isn’t a God! All of America just witnessed a true miracle!”

Our nation is already so divided and on the verge of violence at any moment. However, I want you to imagine, should President Trump have been killed, what America would be like? There is certainly the potential for rioting in the streets, retaliatory strikes and even a civil war.

Thank God this was not the case.

I can’t explain everything that happened that day. Which is why, along with being thankful, we pray for the family of Firefighter Corey Comperatore who was killed and the two others injured in the rally shooting.

However, one must wonder if there wasn’t a silver lining in the events that transpired on that day.

The incident appears to have profoundly impacted President Trump, leading him to reconsider his campaign’s tone, opting for a more unifying message instead of his previously planned aggressive rhetoric.

On his 757, while speaking to a group of reporters, on his way to Milwaukee for the start of the Republican National Convention, the Washington Times reported, “Trump explained that before Saturday night, he had finished the speech he planned to give later this week at the Republican convention. ‘I basically had a speech that was an unbelievable rip-roarer,’ he said. ‘It was brutal — really good, really tough. [Last night] I threw it out. I think it would be very bad if I got up and started going wild about how horrible everybody is and how corrupt and crooked, even if it’s true. Had this not happened, we had a speech that was pretty well set that was extremely tough. Now, we have a speech that is more unifying.’”[i]

After the assassination attempt, President Trump posted on Truth Social: “Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers yesterday, as it was God alone who prevented the unthinkable from happening.”

Repeatedly, media personalities, politicians, influencers and religious leaders have portrayed Donald Trump’s surviving of this tragic event as part of God’s plan to protect him and deliver a Christian America.

Could this near-death incident turn America back to God? Absolutely it could! Didn’t God use near-death experiences to change world empires in the Bible?

Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego

In Daniel 3, the Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar was the leader of a global government. To unite his kingdom religiously, he built a 90-foot-tall statue and demanded that everyone worship it. The command was issued that when the music started to play, everyone was to bow before the image. Anyone who does not bow will be cast into a fiery furnace.

The music began to play and everyone bowed down but three Hebrews named Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. They couldn’t bow. The Hebrews were always taught, “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:” (Deuteronomy 6:4) “ … him only shalt thou serve.” (Matthew 4:10) To bow to anything else would be idol worship.

Nebuchadnezzar even gave them a second chance but they still refused to bow. They told the king their God was able to deliver them and even if He doesn’t, we still won’t bow down to this image.

In his fury, King Nebuchadnezzar throws them in a fiery furnace heated seven times hotter than normal. After a while, the king looks in the furnace and sees not three but four men walking around in the flames.

Daniel 3:24-25 reveals what happened next,

“Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king. He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.”

Daniel 3:26-27 continues:

“Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace, and spake, and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, ye servants of the most high God, come forth, and come hither. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, came forth of the midst of the fire. And the princes, governors, and captains, and the king’s counsellors, being gathered together, saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had no power, nor was an hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor the smell of fire had passed on them.”

God certainly performed a miracle no one could deny.

Daniel 3:28-29 continues:

“Then Nebuchadnezzar spake, and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God. Therefore I make a decree, That every people, nation, and language, which speak any thing amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a dunghill: because there is no other God that can deliver after this sort.”

When it looked like all hope was lost, God used a near-death experience to cause a world empire to acknowledge Him as the true God. That’s not the only time.

Daniel and the Lion’s Den

In Daniel 6, Daniel has gained the favor of King Darius who, along with King Cyrus, ruled the world government of the Medes and Persians. Because of his excellent spirit, King Darius gave Daniel an exalted position in his kingdom.

Daniel’s fellow rulers become jealous and plotted to kill him.

These men went before King Darius with mischief in their hearts. Their proposal probably sounded something like, “All of us have agreed together and we think you are so great and such a great world leader. We think we should honor you by decreeing that no one can ask a petition from anyone except for you for the next 30 days. If anyone does, they should be thrown into the den of lions.” King Darius agreed and signed the decree. He may have thought, “I’m glad you think so highly of me and I would be glad to receive this honor.” The law of the Medes and Persians stated that once a decree was signed by the king, then it could not be rescinded.

The men who were out to destroy Daniel understood that Daniel would not compromise his faithfulness to God. They knew that Daniel prayed three times a day. This was a lifestyle with Daniel; it became known and he couldn’t hide it. People came to understand his devotion to God. They decided this was a way to trap him.

The men spied on Daniel and when they caught him praying, went straight to King Darius with the news. The law of the Medes and Persians forced King Darius to throw Daniel into the lion’s den.

Daniel 6:16 states, “ … Now the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee.”

King Darius stayed up all night and went straight to the lion’s den the next morning.

Verse 20 states, “And when he came to the den, he cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel: and the king spake and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions?”

Daniel’s reply is found in verses 21-22, “Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever. My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions’ mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.”

Scripture tells us that no manner of hurt was found on him because he believed in God.

Could anyone deny this was a miracle? Absolutely not. God closed the mouth of those lions.

Verses 25-27 records King Darius’ response, “Then king Darius wrote unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you. I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end. He delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.”

God used Daniel’s near-death experience to change an entire world governing empire and cause them to worship Him only by decree of the king.

Did God Just do it Again?

Just like Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, isn’t it possible God could use President Trump’s near-death experience to change America for the better? To unite America as we acknowledge the hand of God on President Trump.

All hope is not lost for America.

In 2 Chronicles 7:14 it states, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

Whether it is in the days of Daniel, the three Hebrew children or Donald J. Trump, an acknowledgement of God’s divine hand is the key to the transformation and healing of our nation.

During his Republican National Convention speech, Tucker Carlson made this statement, “What’s happened over the last month … since the debate … and particularly on Saturday in Butler …  I think a lot of people are wondering, ‘What is this … This doesn’t look like politics …. Something bigger is going on here.’ I think even people who don’t believe in God are beginning to think, ‘well maybe there is something to this’ …. Actually … And I’m starting to think it’s going to be ok.”[ii]

Tucker ended his speech with these words, “I’ll just stop with this … I’m not always convinced that I’m on the right side … I’ve been on the wrong side many times … you’ll never hear me say I’m on God’s side or God’s with me or even I’m with God … I want to be …  not sure I am … but I will say this unequivocally and conclusively God is among us right now and I think that’s enough … God bless.”[iii]

The realization of this fact, that God does exist, He is in control and He works in the affairs of mankind … “He is amongst us” is the silver lining in the attempted assassination of Donald J. Trump.

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)

God Bless the United States of America!
